Trey Songz Backs Off Of Kelz, Prepares New Album

During a visit to MTV on Wednesday (December 16), Trey Songz responded to a recent interview where R&B crooner R. Kelly addressed the shots that he sent his way earlier this year with the record, Death Of Kells.

"It wasn't a beef," said a smiling Trey. "It was me telling R. Kelly to take the damn Auto-Tune off his voice, which he did on his album. His album is good."

Trey also said he has more important things on his mind, like a follow-up to his album.

"I'm trying to make sure I have an album out asap. I ain't gonna tell you how soon, though. It's not gonna be two years," said the singer. "I wanna use the same recipe I've been using. If anyone is added, it'll be for real purpose. I spoke to Pharrell. I told him I'm getting in, Timbaland as well - both huge Virginia-grown producers. I definitely would love to work with them. But Troy Taylor I've been working with since the beginning of my career. Plus Bryan-Michael Cox I've had a couple hits with. I definitely wanna make sure we use the same chemistry."

R. Kelly reacted to Trey's song that was set over Jay-Z's Death Of Autotune instrumental and dissed his usage of Auto-Tune during an interview with DJ Skee on December 3.

"If you're gonna step out on that limb, which is very thin, you should make a personal call," said Kells. "Now if you're trying to sell an album and start a beef, then you make it public...But you have to be very careful with that. Because why would I tell Stevie Wonder, even though he doesn't have an album, 'You need to do this and that'...or talk about Stevie Wonder. I would not do that. Because Stevie Wonder has fans too. Just as Stevie Wonder and Charlie Wilson and Donnie Hathaway and Sam Cooke paved the way for the R. Kellys and Aaron Halls and The-Dreams and everybody else. As we come up, we're paving the way for the next person....but you cannot talk about someone who has done what they've done in this industry, which has changed the industry...and still doing it. You're trying to throw a rock at the top of the Sears Tower."
