Eminem's "Recovery" Sells Over 700k In First Week

Eminem’s seventh studio album, Recovery, has sold over 700,000 copies in its first week in stores. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the exact figure comes to around 741,000. The LP is officially the best debut of the year thus far, and Em may not run into much competition for the remainder of 2010, with the exception of Kanye West. The only other recent album to sell more in its first week is AC/DC’s Black Ice, which shipped 784,000 copies in 2008.

Recovery was initially slated to be a continuation of Em’s sixth studio album Relapse, and as such was going to be titled Relapse 2. But after starting the recording process the Detroit-bred lyricist released a statement that read, “The idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title.”

Not Afraid, the first single from the project, was released in April and debuted at the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming only the 16th song in Billboard’s history to do so, and only the second rap single to accomplish that.

The LP features production from Just Blaze, Boi-1da, Mr. Porter, Jim Jonsin, DJ Khalil, and Dr. Dre, amongst others. The only features come courtesy of singers Pink and Rihanna, and rapper Lil Wayne.

Beanie Sigel Says He'll Slap Drake

After taking some time off, Philly rapper Beanie Sigel has started back up on his war path. Whether he’s ruining others’ careers or just his own, though, has yet to be determined.

Reflecting back on his Roc-A-Fella days, Sigel says that the one thing he would change is the time when he went up against New York rapper Jadakiss. Because according to him, the main reason he jumped into a beef with Kiss was because Jay-Z was “scared.”

“Only thing I regret about that Roc-A-Fella sh*t was going against my n*gga Kiss,” said Beans. “I did that sh*t for you n*gga because you were scared. You knew Kiss would have bit that ass. I should pull off my belt and whip that ass.”

Beanie also not only addressed the subliminal shots he perceives Jay has been sending his way, but he also implied that rappers who continue to put the music mogul on their songs knowing that soft disses to him are involved, may need some extra security in the future.

“I know all that f*ggot sh*t you popping and the little slurs on Drake and them’s records and I’ma tell y’all little motherf*ckers something, y’all keep letting that n*gga get on records and pop sh*t. I’ma start coming at y’all little n*ggas. I’ll smack the sh*t outta Drake b*tch ass. All y’all n*ggas, f*ck all y’all. This is Broad Street Bully, B. Sig., I have no problem seeing anybody on site.”

Lil Kim Disses Drake, Nicki Minaj & Diddy...Again

Lil Kim is continuing her rants on Nicki Minaj, Drake, and Diddy. Over the past few weeks, shots have been fired by both Kim and Nicki and Young Money label mate Drake. There was also a fake Twitter page with Kim’s name on it that aired out all sorts of things about Nicki and Diddy, including a tweet that claimed Diddy is playing for both teams. Nicki Minaj and Drake have gone in on Kim in various locations in return, including on stage during one of their shows.

Lil Kim went on the Ed Lover Morning Show to take more shots at all three who have all been at the center of her most recent disses. As previously reported, Kimmy called Drake out for coming to Nicki's defense when the Queen Bee and Ray J dissed her, deeming him a “straight pu**y” and added that subliminal disses by Minaj are the cause for her beef with the rapper.

The battle now continues as she talks about Drake again and tells Lover that Drizzy should've addressed Ray J for dissing Nicki and calls him “pink” for choosing to direct a diss her way instead.

Kim also said that she’s “flattered” by Nicki’s copying of her but says her subliminal shots are unnecessary especially in an industry where women need to stick together. When asked about Diddy however the Queen is much less understanding and much more direct saying that she was “disappointed” in him for taking up for Minaj.

Drake Nearly Makes Gold With "Thank Me Later"

In spite of Drake’s Thank Me Later debut album leaking two weeks before its scheduled release date, the album has done surprisingly well on the charts.

When the album leaked earlier this month, Drake took to his Twitter page to say that he wasn’t worried because he had been “giving away music for free for years” and was confident his fans would still go out and purchase the album. Although the album hasn’t done the numbers anticipated prior to the leak and eventual release, the album is still doing well for its first week on the charts. It is currently the number one album on iTunes’ Hip-Hop charts.

The first official project from the Young Money rapper is certified platinum in Canada after moving over 100,000 copies. While the album also did well here in the U.S., it failed to reach the 500,000 copies mark needed to reach the RIAA’s Gold status -- the album has sold 462,989 copies in the States. That still is considerably well considering the album was leaked prior to release. The Canadian rapper recently celebrated his platinum status in Canada and posed with his plaque commemorating his stellar first week sales.

Thank Me Later features appearances by Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, T.I. and Young Jeezy. Most of the album's production is handled by Drake's longtime producer Boi-1da.

Lil Boosie Says He's Innocent Of First Degree Murder Charges

Lil Boosie recently commented on the new first degree murder charges that were levied against him by Baton Rouge prosecutors. While being transferred from the Louisiana State Police headquarters, where he underwent questioning, to the East Baton Rouge jail, Lil Boosie told reporters, “I’m innocent. I’m completely innocent.”

The new charges stem from the murder of a 35-year-old Louisiana man by the name of Terry Boyd. Authorities are claiming that Boosie hired a hitman to take out Boyd, who was shot while inside his house by a gunman, who was outside the home.

The Trill Entertainment rapper was also hit with drug charges after police say he attempted to smuggle narcotics into the Dixon Hills Correctional Facility, where he has been serving out a four year sentence that links back to drug charges and parole violations he accrued in late 2009.

His girlfriend, Walnita Decuir, 25, along with Joshua Wilson, a former correctional officer at Dixon Hills, and another inmate were also hit with drug charges.

The police are looking to other similar crimes that were committed over the last year with the hopes of linking them to Boosie. “We’re investigating the others in a similar fashion,” said East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore. “We are investigating the common pattern of these killings and money.”

By the time the investigation ends, Boosie could be facing five additional murder charges. If convicted of the single murder charge he is facing now he could receive the death penalty.

Big Boi Gears Up For First Solo Album

The world knows him as Big Boi, one-half of multi-platinum, five-time Grammy Award-winning supergroup OutKast, whose albums and singles have sold over 25-times platinum in the U.S. alone.

Now make way for Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty, Big Boi's first stand-alone solo album, nearly four years in the making and finally set to arrive July 6th on Def Jam Recordings. 10 days later, Big Boi joins the lineup at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago's Union Park, over the July 16-18th weekend.

Big Boi is already back in the picture with his Def Jam debut, Shutterbug featuring Cutty, produced by Scott Storch, the lead single from Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty.

The rapper’s signing to the Island Def Jam Music Group marks a reunion with the label's Chairman, Antonio 'L.A.' Reid, as officially announced throughout the media last week.

"L.A. knows what time it is since I was a teeny bopper, so when I first started working on the record I talked to L.A.," Big Boi told Billboard, referring to Reid's near 20-year association with OutKast.

The duo signed their first record deal with Reid, and his Atlanta-based LaFace Records, the label he founded with Babyface. He has been in OutKast's corner since the creation of their first album, 1994's Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik, which was recorded when Big Boi was still a teenager.

Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son Of Chico Dusty is essentially Big Boi's first stand-alone solo album project since Speakerboxxx. As reported by New York magazine, "He started working on his solo album on Martin Luther King Day ... three years ago."

Now the wait is almost over.

Jay-Z Dissing LL Cool J?

In an interview for Rolling Stones, forty-year-old rapper and entrepreneur Jay-Z talks about aging in the Hip-Hop industry. He says that rap has always been a “young game” and it is becoming harder for aging rappers to achieve the same success as the young minds of Hip-Hop.

Furthermore, Hov also talks about LL Cool J, but the way and the context he mentions him sound more of a diss than a compliment: “We've seen people like LL Cool J have longevity and we respect the heritage of what he's done but it's not like right now he's competing on the same level as Lil Wayne so for me to still be able to compete at that level at my age, that's rarefied air, it's never been done.”

It is universally acknowledged that to-keep-it-real in Hip-Hop is pivotal, and this seems to be Jay-Z’s key of success. He asserts that: "I think the problem with people, as they start to mature, they say, 'Rap is a young man's game,' and they keep trying to make young songs. But you don't know the slang -- it changes every day. You can visit the topic, but these young kids live it every day, and you're just visiting. So you're trying to be something you're not, and the audience doesn't buy into that. And people wonder why [they're not selling]. 'I made a great Southern bounce song!' You're from New York, and you're 70! Why are you bouncing?"

Whether Hov is dissing or not, truth is he is at the top of the game. His Blueprint 3 is selling incredibly well, his performances are always a success and he still hits sold-outs at his concerts.

Celebrating Tupac's B-Day

Tupac Shakur would have turned 39 today. He was born on June 16th 1971. To celebrate his birthday, his mother, Afeni Shakur, has organized a concert in Stone Mountain, Georgia, at the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center, where big names of the Hip-Hop industry will perform such as Rick Ross and Bun B, who stated that: “I'm always ready to help uphold the honor of Hip-Hop's fallen soldier. I take pride in standing and remembering 2Pac, one of the greatest ever.”

On the West Coast, starting at 9:00 PM at the Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica, California, Tupac’s brother Mopreme Shakur, will remember the West Coast rap star with yet another group of famous rappers such as Above The Law, Money B. and Raz B.

In a recent interview, Mopreme asserted that: "Makaveli lives. We're celebrating my baby brother and the King Of Rap's birthday once again. As we move forward in the rap game, it's really important that we take time out to remember those that put it down before us and gave us the foundation for what we have today."

Even Madame Tussauds will pay tribute to Tupac. The wax figures of Tupac and Biggie will be brought together, respectively from Las Vegas and New York, to the Madame Tussauds’ Washington, DC. Museum. The replicas will remain together, side-by-side, for three months, thus giving the fans the opportunity of being photographed with these two Hip-Hop legends, whose murders are still unsolved.

Drake Reveals His Feelings For Nicki Minaj

Drake has decided to express his feelings to the media about the long term crush he has had on his Young Money team mate Nicki Minaj.

The Canadian emcee claims that upon signing to Young Money in 2009, he has had a crush on Nicki. Although he claims that these feelings are undeniable, Nicki begs to differ.

“When I was on tour... I saw Nicki for the first time and, like, literally fell in love,” he told DJ Envy in an interview.

“She had this snap back hat on that said Minaj. She used to wear that every single day. She was like a theater student and she was so cold at rapping... I remember one of the first nights that we were out in Miami and I went to Jerry’s Famous Deli. I was like [to Nicki], ‘You want food, you hungry?’ and she was like, ‘Yeah, I want some food.’ I was like, ‘I’m in, we gonna eat food together.’ I came to her door and she took the food and shut the door in my face! I was just like, ‘Man, this is gonna be a long road for us.’ I’ve always really, actually, really had a crush on her, always really loved her, and she's always just looked at me as, like, her little brother.”

Drake even openly speaks about how he feels in his song Miss Me with lines like, “I love Nicki Minaj/ I told her I'd admit it/ I hope one day we get married just to say we f*cking did it/ And girl, I'm f*cking serious/ I'm with it if you with it/ 'Cause your verses turn me on and your pants are mighty fitted.”

On the other hand, Minaj refuses to agree that Drake likes her. “Drake does not have a crush on me, Drake knows how to get you guys’ attention,” Nicki assures Envy.

As the interview continued, DJ Envy asked Nicki how she would prefer to be approached, and she made it clear that she shouldn’t be approached at all. “I don’t want to be hollered at right now. I just don’t. I wanna go and hibernate and coop up somewhere and be alone.”

Fabolous Involved In Murder Of New York Rapper?

Fabolous is reportedly being investigated for his role in the murder of a fellow New York rapper.

According to the New York Daily News, detectives aren’t quite sure if Fab had anything to do with the crime but they want to examine all of the possibilities in the murder of up and coming rapper Greg “G-Baby” Brown.

Brown was shot down by an unknown gunman after leaving a concert at Club Amazura in Queens where Fabolous performed on March 13th. Surveillance video from the venue shows Fab leaving the nightclub mere seconds before G-Baby took three bullets to the back

“[Fabolous was] about to get in the car as the shooting [went] down,” said a police source who saw the footage from that night.

Brown and Fab both hail from Bedford-Stuyvesant but until recently the two had beef with each other. “G-Baby and Fabolous had beef before, but they supposedly squashed all of that,” said Derrick Parker, a former NYPD Hip-Hop crimes investigator, who was working with security on the night Brown was killed.

“My son was going to talk to Fab in a car and he got shot three times,” said G-Baby’s mother, Roxanne Brown. “I don’t know what’s going on.”

“I just want to know who killed my son. I don’t want to talk to Fabolous. I just want whoever did this to pay.”

Fabolous alerted fans to Brown’s death several hours later via his Twitter account. “Lost a soldier in the field this morning,” read the tweet. “R.I.P. G Baby.”

G-Baby was signed to Brooklyn rapper Memphis Bleek’s record label Get Low Records and was making moves to spread his music at the time of his passing.

Fat Joe Financial Records Revealed

Following in the path already well traveled by several other rappers, New York rhymespitter Fat Joe has found himself in trouble with the IRS.

Joey’s tax problems, which date back to 2008, leaked online earlier this week and seemingly contradict the rapper’s recent claims that he isn’t having any money problems.

According to the Detroit News, in August of 2008 the state of New Jersey filed a $105,000 tax lien against Joe and Terror Squad with the New Jersey State Superior Court. The IRS then filed another lien against him with the Mercer County (N.J.) clerk, totaling $31,987 on February 2nd of this year and in March they filed a $2,200 lien against Joey and Terror Squad Productions Inc. Collectively the three liens come to a total of $139,000 worth of delinquent state and federal taxes.

SunTrust Bank also filed a lawsuit against Fat Joe in Florida’s Broward County Circuit Court over a four-year-old $250,000 mortgage that he took out on the property he owned in Plantation, Fla . The bank was awarded a default judgment against him on April 27th of this year for $71,611.

“I’m selling my home like everyone else in the world,” said Joe while explaining his decision to sale his Plantation, Florida home.

He also went to say that the sell wasn’t motivated by money woes, but instead he was simply moving because his wife wanted to be closer to the water. “Yea you know my wife she wants to move back towards the beach, we out a little west in the suburbs, so you know. You know, a man just trying to live, just trying to survive man.”

Drake Says Rihanna Played Him

In a recent interview with the NY Times to discuss his new album, Drake spoke about being played by Rihanna. There has been some speculation that the song Fireworks off of his debut studio album, Thank Me Later, which was leaked two weeks before its slated release date, contains a verse that refers to Rihanna.

According to the article, Drake was asked by RiRi to write a song for the singer’s last year for her Rated R album.

“I was a pawn,” Drake said. The song he wrote for her never got released. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he said. “I was like, wow, this feels terrible.”

Drake and Rihanna were rumored to be dating last year not too long after the incident between RiRi and Chris Brown after the Grammys. Although it was said numerous times, the two never confirmed it. On the track Favorite Girl by Chris Brown, he accuses Rihanna of cheating on him with Drake while they were together.

The article continues discussing Drake’s previous role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation, his native Canada, and what the future hold for Drake career-wise.

“Part of his journey [in Degrassi] is trying to figure where he does fit in in the world, having a white Jewish mom and a black, often absentee father,” said Linda Schuyler, a creator of the show. “It’s almost a comfort factor with Jimmy Brooks. That was the antithesis of his life at the time. It was probably reassuring and a bit escapist for him to play that role.”
