Drake Says Rihanna Played Him

In a recent interview with the NY Times to discuss his new album, Drake spoke about being played by Rihanna. There has been some speculation that the song Fireworks off of his debut studio album, Thank Me Later, which was leaked two weeks before its slated release date, contains a verse that refers to Rihanna.

According to the article, Drake was asked by RiRi to write a song for the singer’s last year for her Rated R album.

“I was a pawn,” Drake said. The song he wrote for her never got released. “You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I’ve done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear,” he said. “I was like, wow, this feels terrible.”

Drake and Rihanna were rumored to be dating last year not too long after the incident between RiRi and Chris Brown after the Grammys. Although it was said numerous times, the two never confirmed it. On the track Favorite Girl by Chris Brown, he accuses Rihanna of cheating on him with Drake while they were together.

The article continues discussing Drake’s previous role as Jimmy Brooks on Degrassi: The Next Generation, his native Canada, and what the future hold for Drake career-wise.

“Part of his journey [in Degrassi] is trying to figure where he does fit in in the world, having a white Jewish mom and a black, often absentee father,” said Linda Schuyler, a creator of the show. “It’s almost a comfort factor with Jimmy Brooks. That was the antithesis of his life at the time. It was probably reassuring and a bit escapist for him to play that role.”
