Contrary to earlier reports rapper Shyne, born Jamal Barrow, was not released from prison yesterday (October 7th) as scheduled. Instead the he was taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and transferred to an undisclosed Federal detention facility pending a review of his case.

According to Shyne's attorney Oscar Michelin, Federal officials are now reviewing the rapper's immigration status and making a determination on whether or not he will be deported to his native country Belize.

Although Shyne was raised in Brooklyn the fact that he was born in Belize, makes him eligible for deportation under the Immigration Reform & Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. The law has been enforced more strictly since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Shyne is not the first rapper to face deportation. In 2002 Slick Rick, born Ricky Walters, was arrested by the INS and held in a Florida Detention Center for 17 months, where he was continuously denied bail. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to depart the British born MC, he was finally granted a full pardon by New York Gov. David Paterson on May 28, 2008. Last year former 50 Cent associate and original G-Unit member Bang Em Smurf was deported to Trinidad after serving time in a New York State Prison for a gun charge.

Although Shyne is still in custody, the rumors about what label he will sign to have continued to surface with Roc Nation, Bad Boy and Czar Entertainment/Black Wall Street at the top of the list.
